THE BRIEF
A distinctive boutique hotel experience in Raleigh, North Carolina. This immersive hotel concept began with a dream to reimagine a rehabilitated space rather than a new build. The hope was to create something modern yet historic, locally vibrant, and story-forward.
The ideal location of Merritt Inn was found through the articles and archives of the Goodnight Raleigh newsletter, written and edited by Raleigh Boy. His article, Denizens of the Coal Yard, revealed rich possibilities within the ex-coal yard industrial areas of Raleigh, NC. The discovered building, established in 1914, sits next door to the Raleigh Union station and is a testament to the development and change of the Raleigh landscape.
